In connection with Onam 2019, Excise Department has conducted Special Enforcement Drive, to curb the illicit trafficking and usage of liquor and drugs during the season. The drive named Operation Vishudhi started from 10/08/2019, and continued till the end of the festival season, upto 15/09/2019.

As part of Operation Vishudhi, Excise Department has detected 1687 Abkari cases, 836 NDPS cases and 8418 COTPA cases, till 15/09/2019. 2258 accused were arrested in these cases, and seized 578 Ltr Arrack, 28301 Ltr Wash, 3529 Ltr IMFL, 19.4 Ltr FMFL, 189 Ltr Arishttam, 301 Ltr Beer, 1578 Ltr Toddy, 1054 Ltr Illicit Liquor, 51 Ltr Wine, 250 Kg Ganja, 139 Ganja Plants, 8.8 gm Hashish, 10 gm Brown Sugar, 4.2 gm MDMA, 230 mg LSD, 279 mg Cocaine, 1263 Tablets/Ampoules and 11836 Kg Tobacco Products. 178 vehicles also seized in these cases. Fine of Rs.16,83,600/- imposed in COTPA cases. Tube money for Rs.98,62,950/- and 6.82 Kg sandal wood also detected during the inspections.
